Ontwikkelingen Hoger Onderwijs in Den Haag

The Keuzegids Masters 2012 (a guide for students looking for a suitable master programme) has ranked the programmes of Wageningen University as the best in the country. It shares the first position with the Open University, which offers 'distance learning' programmes.

Overheidsplannen hoger onderwijs uitgesteld?!

Tuition fee International students

From September 2011 the Student Council worked on the Price policy from Wageningen UR. In this document the policy from the university concerning the tuition fees for students is described. The Executive Boards has proposed to raise in the tuition fee for non-EU students from €10500 to €12020, which raised  some concerns for the Student Council.

FOS in MSc phase

The legislative proposal for a social loaning system by the Secretary of State Halbe Zijlstra will be discussed in the Dutch parliament in short notice. This proposal implies that Dutch master students will not receive a study grant anymore, but they can loan this amount of money instead. The distribution of FOS (financial compensation for students) is linked to the amount of study grant a student receives.

Tuition fee free board year (collegegeld vrije besturen)

Boris van der Ham (D66) and Anne-Wil Lucas handed in a legislative proposal in the Dutch parliament which would make it possible to unsubscribe for the University while being in a full-time board. This proposal will be discussed in parliament soon. VeSte is very much supporting such a legislation, so hopefully it will be implemented!

RSI and Working places

RSI is an expanding problem among students. WorkPace is installed on all university computers to prevent you to get RSI. Still, a lot can be improved. We would like to see more ergonomic working places, also in the new buildings like Orion. Chairs and tables have to be adjustable to your posture.
